New bosses inherit old wounds from people above them.

Ask the team what past leadership did that still stings.

Fix what you can today.

If the block sits higher, tell them you are taking it up and then actually take it up.

They follow when they see you working harder on their problems than they do.

You just got the title and a hundred people who already distrust the company.

That distrust is not about you.

It is about what happened before you arrived.

Your first job is to find the specific slights they still repeat.

Sit with them one by one and write the list down.

Fix every item that lives inside your reach this week.

For the rest, walk it to your own boss and report back that you did.

Do not give speeches about culture.

Change the thing they named.

Offer a real path up if they take more weight.

Talk until they see why a leftover rule exists or until that rule is gone.

Teams mesh when every member knows their complaint was heard and then handled.

That is the whole job of a leader and of any teammate who wants the group to believe in itself.

Assignment:

Think of your friend group.

Name what they dislike about how the group works.

Decide whether you can fix it.
